You Cannot Lose To Snails

I would be a rubbish goddess.

Especially if I had to be a goddess of life or its opposite; file.

The aquarium is good for teaching me about balance and chemistry and how to make things work. I learn this by failing to make things work; it is most disheartening.

My first slightly icky discovery is that live food is the very best. The teeny tiny fleas and worms make everything happen; no fish get ill,  discovery behaviours are at their best and most evident, the tank is happy. But I was worried about the fleas and worms. They showed no signs of consciousness but still, it can't be pleasant for them. So I started with frozen food, and the results are three small dead cories in 10 days, no sign of illness... I don't know what it is. I think I am putting out enough food, in fact I am putting out a lot of food. It's still good and proteinful. The water's fine. So why are they dying? Are the new mollies and angel fish eating too much? Are they aggressively stealing food from the cories? I honestly don't know. The little corydoras seem to often woofle right past the thawed worms  put in specifically for them, I don't know if they are ignoring the worms or just failing to notice them. All I know is that the snails do well out of it.

Of course I will look for other solutions, but I am beginning to despair. If you lose to snails in the basic strategy of finding and eating food  when it is literally showering down upon you, what hope can there be? Maybe the gods feel the same way about us.
